The region of Shoumen offers good natural resources for development of the agriculture – presence of fruitful arable land (77 % of the land in the region is arable). This creates opportunities to grow different plants as raw materials for the food industry. The natural resources are good base for the development of the crop industry (wheat, rye, sunflowers), vine growing, sugar beet, and animal breeding (pigs- and poultry farming) .

In the region are the only Bulgarian scientific institutes specialized in the problems of pigs, horses, buffaloes farming, as well as sugar beet planting.

In the region is demonstrated high demand for agricultural production. There are possibilities for increase of the demand because of the preconditions like relatively well developed food industry and presence of unused production capacities in the sector.

There are unused production capacities also in the sector of dairy products, meat, wine, brewing and processing industries.
